Xita Lao Tai Tai Singapore – Charcoal Claypot BBQ With 600 Outlets in China Lands at Bugis!
April 21, 2025

Another new BBQ place in Singapore? I know, I know — we’ve got so many already. But you have to admit, we Singaporeans are a sucker for smoky, sizzling meats. There’s just something about gathering around a grill with good company that hits different. So when I heard that Xita Lao Tai Tai, China’s number one charcoal claypot BBQ brand with over 600 outlets, was opening their first Southeast Asian outpost in Bugis, I knew I had to check it out.
“Xita Lao Tai Tai” literally means “Old Lady of Xita”, and the brand hails from the Xita district in Shenyang — a place known for its Korean-influenced clay stove BBQ. Back in the 1950s, Korean merchants traded in that area, and the unique clay stove was born. Not only did it protect the flame from Shenyang’s brutal winters, it also gave the meat a stronger char and a deeper, smokier flavour. That signature technique has now made its way to Singapore — and I have to say, I’m all for it.
The moment I stepped into the restaurant, I felt like a royal guest. Before I even ordered, the table was already set with an array of xiao cai — kimchi, mashed potato, tofu skin, and more. They’re free-flow by the way, so feel free to snack while you grill. A staff member then came over, explained the different meat cuts patiently, and even helped us cook. I didn’t have to lift a finger!
Now, the star of the show — the meat. All the meats are cut fresh daily and marinated in-house using one (or more!) of 28 different sauces. The Xita Fatty Beef, marinated with the natural sweetness of apples, was incredibly tender and juicy. But my favourite has to be the Pineapple Beef Sirloin — thick, meaty slices with a good balance of char and bite, paired with grilled pineapple that cut through the richness with a sweet tang. Honestly, that combo was chef’s kiss.
Not a beef eater? Don’t worry. The Singapore outlet has expanded the menu to include more pork and seafood. The Signature Marinated Pork Fillet and Special Pork Collar were flavourful, but the Marinated Pork Skin stole the show for me. It crisped up beautifully on the grill and dipped into their signature sesame sauce — made with 10 different ingredients including coriander and chopped onions — it was addictive.
We also tried some sides to go with the meats — the Lady Finger with Pickled Chilli had a nice spicy kick, while the Cold Dressed Chicken was tender and savoury. The Golden Tofu had a light crispy edge with a soft centre. And don’t skip the Cold Buckwheat Noodles — it came topped with apple slices and had a refreshing, zesty slurp that was perfect after all the grilled meats.
I think Xita Lao Tai Tai is a solid new addition to the BBQ scene in Singapore. It’s not just about the hype — they’re actually doing things right. Fresh, well-marinated meat, great service, free-flow sides, and that signature claypot charcoal grill — all in the heart of Bugis. So jio your BBQ kakis and make a reservation soon… before the queues start snaking like they do in Beijing and Shanghai!
