Two months ago, when I first tried Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles, I ordered a conservative bowl of prawn noodles worth $5. Friends keep telling me that I should try their $10 ones.

So today, I queued again. It was horrible wait. I was hungry but we weren’t too far from the stall so I thought it should reach our turn soon. But I was wrong. There was a huge group of office people who ordered 10 bowls of noodles. Then there was also ladies who ordered 4 bowls at one go.

We queued for a good one hour before it reaches our turn. Time check, 1.30pm. Lady boss of Wah Kee Prawn Noodles told me that $10 bowl prawn noodles was sold out. I was only left with $5, $15 or $20.

Whack it! “$20 prawn noodles please!”

Lady boss gave me a smile. “$20 ah?” she asked again, perhaps she has never seen a girl ordered $20 bowl of noodles before. Yes I nodded in confirmation.

I don’t think I have seen her smile that wide before. When I first ordered a $5 bowl, she was very grumpy. Perhaps it was a bad day for her. Today, she was smiling and even showed me my pot of prawns before cooking it.

So I asked, what’s the difference between $10 and $20 prawn noodles?

The boss turned around and said, “4 room flat and 5 room flat same anot?

The lady boss added, “You and me same anot? You thinner, I fatter.”

Ok, #youwin. What’s the bonus? She gave me a packet of tissue paper!

So back at my $20 prawn noodles, I get three big fat prawns which are about the size of a large palm. Having been in this business for more than 50 years, they only serve sea-caught prawns which he buys from Tekka market. Unlike many other prawn noodle stalls, his broth is cooked using seafood with no pork ribs added. It is super sweet with juicy prawns!

Noodles wise, nothing much to shout about. You can choose from yellow noodles, mee kia or bee hoon. It is tossed with kang kong, chilli and lard.

Will I eat again? Maybe once in a while, I will go for the $10 prawn noodles. But $20 prawn noodles, that’s too extravagant!
