Tony Cafe – Crispy Chicken Wings at The Adelphi, Available Only 3 Days A Week!
May 25, 2017
I was introduced by my Jin Hua to visit Tony Cafe. This unassuming chap chye peng eatery is located at a corner of The Adelphi. I am surprised by the crowd, considering that the mall is relatively quiet. He then told me,”They have chicken wings on Wednesday!”
Right, so the place serves fried chicken wings every Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and apparently many diners come here specially for it. The Fried Chicken Rice scored on every aspect. Nicely seasoned, the wings were immensely tender and juicy! Adapted from corona chicken recipe, the skin was beautifully golden and addictively tasty. No wonder almost every table ordered it.
The owner of Tony Cafe, Shirley, was working upstairs and heard this cafe was letting out so she took over the whole space in 2002. So why doesn’t Tony Cafe sell their Fried Chicken Rice everyday? “We don’t want to do it everyday, otherwise people will get so sick of it.” That’s such a great marketing idea. It reminds me how I would always queue for nasi briyani at this particular Indian stall because they only cook it once a week!
I added some curry vegetables and achar to go with the wings. Don’t forget to dip the wings with their homemade chilli sauce. Similar to what you get in chicken rice stall, but definitely tastier because of the chicken wings.
