TETSU @ Central Embassy, Bangkok
August 16, 2014
Tetsu is one of the newest Japanese Yakiniku restaurant in Central Embassy, Bangkok. Paying homage to Japanese taste, the restaurant focuses on good quality beefs from Japan. During my recent trip to Bangkok, I had the chance to try a few nice restaurants. One of which is definitely Tetsu.
To kick start, we ordered a sweet tangy roll (520THB) with unagi and avocado wrapped with ripen mango and then topped with a piece of foie gras before drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Good to share with two to three persons. For a stronger flavour, try the Double Trouble Sashimi (390THB / pc) which comes with rich uni, shiso on a plate of wagyu and a splash of shoyu and wasabi.
The menu’s highlight is, unsurprisingly, high quality Japanese Omi beef. Top of our list is the Premium Japanese Wagyu Platter (2700THB) with Striploin, Jo Rousu and Rousu, which was nicely-marbled and truly delicious.
Omi beef is one of the three most famous type of Japanese wagyu (Omi, Kobe, Matsuzaka). It is served to the Japanese Emperor as the inital official Japanese Wagyu. Up to this day, Omi beef is the official beef of the Japanese Imperial Household. The cows only feed on good quality organic grains and raised in a rich natural environment with abundant water and scruplous care. This is why Omi beef is so different from other Wagyu.
The beef is grilled over charcoal to give a sweet smoky flavour. After grilling it, it has a glistering exterior and melts in the mouth. With a soft smooth velvety texture (especially Ronsu), the meat is juicy and rich in flavour. Note that there are different cuts of beef which mean different sizes, textures and thicknesses, so cooking time should be adjusted accordingly.
Drizzled with some homemade sauce, it is gloriously tender and enough to make me finish a bowl of rice. Unfortunately, because the beef is sooooo good, I forgot to take a photo of how the beef looks like after grilling it.
Yeah I know, besides stuffing myself silly with street food, I also want to explore the restaurant dishes. Tetsu is one of the best restaurants we visited for this Bangkok trip.
