The Famous Tai Wah Pork Noodle at Hong Lim Food Centre is making its mark in the east.

The Bib Gourmand recipient has opened a second outlet in Bedok FoodHub Coffeeshop, where you can get their bowls at $1 cheaper than at their flagship store.

When we arrived, there were long queues forming at the stall. We queued for ten minutes before placing an order with the experienced staff running the stall. Their deft hands moved swiftly to create Tai Wah Pork Noodle’s house-made sauce mixture and noodles.

We ordered the dry mee pok version of Signature Tai Wah Pork Noodle ($9). The noodles are tossed in a combination of sauces, vinegar, lard oil and chilli. The bowl is then crowned with pork slices, pork liver, minced meat and large chunks of sole fish.

The mee pok was springy with a QQ texture, and both the pork slices and liver were tender. I found that the sole fish stole the show as its crispness added a crunch to the noodles. Additionally, the saltiness from the sole fish added a punch of umami that made it irresistible.

Served alongside the noodles was a bowl of rich pork soup which contained pork dumplings and meatballs. The soup helped to cleanse our palates.

If the Signature feels like too much for one sitting, I’d recommend going for their pork noodle which comes in two sizes — $5 and $7. We ordered the dry mee kia version which is as equally popular as the mee pok.

However, the mee kia noodles were not as springy as the mee pok, and were on the mushier side.

The stall also sells mixed pork soup ($5) without the noodles, which is comforting to consume on its own, especially on rainy days.

If you wish to satisfy your bak chor mee cravings in the east, pop by Tai Wah’s Bedok branch which is just a five-minute walk from the MRT.
