Stamford Catering – One of the Best Chinese New Year Reunion Catering Buffet in Singapore!

There are plenty of caterers or catering services in Singapore but we’ve got to say that no one does it quite like Stamford Catering. Chinese New Year is one of the biggest holidays of the year, and probably the favourite holiday of many, and the best way to ring in the new year and to celebrate happy reunions is to indulge in excellent food with those near and dear. For our annual office Chinese New Year celebration this year, we had the Joyous Spring Buffet from Stamford Catering which can feed 30 people or more. We love that the entire buffet set-up was taken care of, and all we needed to do was feast to our hearts’ content!

The full buffet set-up comprises 8 dishes and your choice of yu sheng (our picks are in bold)

Yusheng (Choice of 1)

• Oven Roasted Lemon Lavender Whole Chicken with Peach Salsa 香烤柠檬薰衣草鸡配蜜桃莎莎酱
• Typhoon Shelter Prawns with Red Peppercorn 避风塘炒虾
• Braised Cabbage with Wolfberries 焖白菜配枸杞子
• Breaded Lychee Prawn Ball with Candied Mandarin Orange Salad Cream 香脆荔枝虾球配蜜饯橙汁沙拉奶油酱

Dessert

• Black Sesame Tang Yuan w Red Bean Soup 黑芝麻汤圆配红豆汤

We liked that pretty cards that had pointers on how to go about a proper ho hei were given so that we don’t mess them up like we usually do. Everyone could shout the correct auspicious phrases together, and at the top of our voices no less, since we were in the comfort of our office!

We thought that the spread was great, as it had a little of everything — meat, fish, prawns, carbs — and the flavours were all different and interesting. There’s not one dish that tasted similar, and we really appreciated Stamford Catering’s efforts in ensuring that all palates are pleased. We especially enjoyed the crisp and crunchy Typhoon Shelter Prawns that were substantial in size, and the Sze Chuan Mala Seabass Fillet which packed a good spicy punch but was not overwhelmingly mouth numbing.

The Oven Roasted Lemon Lavender Whole Chicken with Peach Salsa was also a delightful creation! I was pleasantly surprised by how the lovely flavours of lemon and lavender were harmoniously melded, and I adored the tangy peach salsa which just elevated the dish altogether.

Lychee and prawns are not an unusual combination but I have certainly never seen them in this form before! The unique Breaded Lychee Prawn Ball is complemented by a well-balanced candied mandarin orange cream, and don’t be surprised if you see the children or teenagers scooping five or ten of them onto their plates at one go.

We couldn’t quite decide between the HK Style Braised Beef Brisket or Braised Lamb Stew with Black Fungus because, truthfully, they both sounded delicious. We opted for the beef brisket because one of my colleagues said that she loves that dish! When asked about her thoughts on Stamford Catering’s rendition, she gave a thumbs up!

We also had a hard time picking between the Eight Treasure Ee Fu Noodle with Trio Mushroom & Chives or Curried Chicken Fried Rice with Pineapple & Chicken Floss because half the office preferred noodles but half preferred rice. We then had a logical and sensible debate on which is more unique and the unanimous vote went to the fried rice! Who doesn’t love a good plate of fried rice, right? And Stamford Catering’s creative version was such a huge hit! Expect a flavour bomb, along with multiple textures and crunch within.

We each rounded off the satisfying feast with not just one, but numerous bowls of bouncy tang yuan that encased a smooth black sesame paste. Who knew that black sesame and red bean soup would go so well together? We were all so full by the end of the meal but we loved the tang yuan too much that we just couldn’t stop ourselves!
