Soupy Licious Restaurant: Family-Friendly Meal in the Heart of Malacca

December had been a whirlwind of travel for us—mostly with friends and family—and if I’m being honest, we were exhausted from all the socialising. What we really wanted was something simple: a short, fuss-free trip just for our small family of three. So we packed up the car and drove up to Malacca to spend the last few days of 2025 at our own pace.

We had done a Malacca road trip a few months ago and loved it. There was still so much we hadn’t explored, which made returning an easy decision. This time, though, we kept things intentionally slow. With a four-year-old in tow, hopping from far-flung food spots didn’t feel realistic. Instead, we chose to stay within the city area, walking from shop to shop, letting the days unfold naturally.

I had a long list of saved places on Google Maps—far too many, actually—but one meal stood out so clearly that it became the highlight of the entire trip: Soupy Licious Restaurant (滋味好汤).

SOUPY 1

The menu here is extensive—almost overwhelmingly so for a small family. With just two adults and one child, choosing was hard because everything sounded good. Luckily, for Lucas, the decision was easy. He loves double-boiled soup, and this is exactly what the restaurant is known for.

The soup selection ranges from comforting, everyday options like lotus root soup and ABC soup to more premium offerings such as ginseng chicken soup and pig stomach soup. Every bowl tasted carefully brewed, clean and nourishing—the kind of food that feels good to eat, especially after days of travel.

We also ordered a few dishes to share. The pomfret available that day was too large for us, so we opted for the steamed cod fish instead. It was served simply with tofu and tomatoes, letting the freshness of the fish shine through.

The vinegar pork trotter was rich without being cloying, with a balanced tang that made it incredibly moreish.

But the real standout for me was the abacus seeds. Tossed with thick slices of cuttlefish and mushrooms, the dish was fragrant, savoury, and deeply satisfying—comfort food with real character.

We couldn’t resist adding an oyster omelette to the table as well, rounding off the meal nicely.

What really sealed it for us was how much Lucas enjoyed the meal. He kept saying he wanted to come back for dinner again—a pretty strong endorsement from a four-year-old. The restaurant is air-conditioned (a big plus when travelling with kids), though seating is limited, so making a reservation is highly recommended.

If you’re in Malacca with family and looking for a comforting, child-friendly meal that still satisfies the foodie in you, this is one place I wouldn’t skip.
