Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak – Tasty Affordable Nasi Lemak Stall Opens From as Early as 6am!

This place was actually recommended to us by one of our readers, so of course we had to try it out! For all you early birds out there looking for more breakfast options to add to your lists, we’ve got you. One of Sixth Avenue’s best-kept secrets, Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak opens from as early as 6am and serves platters of nasi lemak as well as mee siam, mee goreng and lontong. Be sure to head down early to get the best pick of the ingredients they have! 

You can either pick and choose what you want for your nasi lemak or order their Otak Set ($4.60), Chicken Set ($5) or Kuning Set ($5.60). Other main dishes include Bee Hoon ($2.80), Mee Goreng ($2.80), Mee Siam ($4/4.50) and Lontong ($4/4.50). There’s also side dishes like Sambal Sotong ($3.50), Curry Chicken ($3.50) and Beef Rendang ($4.50). 

My nasi lemak platter comprised coconut rice, a sunny side-up, chicken wing, brinjal and French beans alongside ikan bilis and a small dollop of sambal chilli, all of which totaled to $6.60. The fluffy grains of rice were thoroughly infused with the milky fragrance of coconut milk. I also enjoyed how crunchy the ikan bilis were despite it having been quite awhile since they first opened in the early hours of the morning. 

The sambal chilli was sweet with a pretty big hit of spiciness. Sadly, it was given in quite a small amount. You can always request for more, but each extra serving is chargeable at $0.30. 

My favourite among the side dishes on my plate was definitely the chicken wing. Armed in a crispy batter that was wonderfully seasoned, the chicken was very flavourful, tender and not at all dry on the inside. 

As someone who loves brinjal, I enjoyed Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak’s version. The thick-cut brinjal were served in large chunks and were coated in a savoury sweet meat sauce. It had that distinct sweet bitterness which was a perfect match with the coconut rice!

I didn’t get to try the other dishes on the menu but I’ve heard favourable reviews of their mee siam so that’s one more reason for me to return, besides getting tasty, affordable nasi lemak of course.
