Paradise Teochew – Feast on Dim Sum and Teochew Classics at Takashimaya & Scotts Square!
July 10, 2021
Paradise Teochew brings authentic Teochew-style dishes and Hong-Kong dim sum under one roof. Diners can expect to be treated to an array of specially-curated dishes crafted by Executive Cheng Fa Kwan, who has 39 years of culinary experience under his belt. Chef Cheng has refined well-loved Teochew classics with finesse and we are sure that you will not be disappointed.
Their freshly-renovated Scotts Square outlet and newest outlet in Ngee Ann City (pictured) welcome guests with warm, elegant settings complete with an air of sophistication. They also have a number of private rooms for those who prefer a more intimate meal, making them the perfect place to share good food over meaningful conversations with family, friends and business associates.
To celebrate the opening of the new outlet and revamped outlet, Paradise Teochew has launched an exclusive double-celebratory promotion — 20 dim sum options at $3.80 each during lunch and 10 signature Teochew dishes at $20 each come dinnertime. Sounds almost too good to be true? We know! But we are happy to confirm that it is a hundred percent true!
Their choices of dim sum will leave you spoilt for choice and each one will instantly transport you to the streets of Hong Kong. You can’t go wrong with traditional favourites such as Steamed Xiao Long Bao, Steamed Pork Dumpling “Siew Mai” and Steamed BBQ Honey Pork Bun, but the one you definitely can’t miss out on has to be Steamed Molten Salted Egg Yolk Bun. The luscious egg yolk is delightfully decadent and pairs extremely well with the pillowy soft bun.
What pleasantly surprised me was the Steamed Glutinous Rice Roll in Teochew Style. This is something fairly new to me as I haven’t often come across it. The contrast between the sticky glutinous rice and its fluffy exterior make for an unusually curious combination that works superbly well.
Another dish well-deserving of praise is the Steamed Rice Roll with Sesame Sauce. The springy and firm rolls are liberally dressed with sweet dark sauce and sesame sauce. Packed with savoury-sweet notes, this dim sum is exceedingly easy to wolf down, and is one truly addictive dish.
With Pan-Fried Radish Cake, Steamed Chicken Claw with Black Bean Sauce, Mini Egg Tarts and many more on the list, we can guarantee that you’ll be leaving with satisfied bellies and a big grin on your face!
When it comes to their menu of Teochew classics, you’re in for a feast. Taking centre-stage for me is the Teochew Style Stewed Duck with Yam in Casserole (half duck). After going through three painstaking hours of cooking, the duck is so tender that you can easily pull the meat right off the bone. Coat it in the savoury gravy and your taste buds will be in absolute bliss. The yam chunks are firm and provide a good bite when eaten with the duck.
The Wok-fried “Hor Fun” with Kai Lan and Preserved Turnip had a boost of wok hei that didn’t overwhelm but instead, brought the entire dish together. I especially liked that the preserved turnips added a salty crunch to the soft hor fun. No guilt was to be found while indulging in this dish as it wasn’t too oily and it had the right amount of greens to go with.
A definite must-try is the Teochew Style Chilled Steamed Mullet, which might look daunting at first sight but once the chef has deftly sliced it open, you’ll be presented with snow-white, tender flesh beneath. The fresh fish had a delicate clean taste, and it’s more than good enough to be savoured on its own, but dip it lightly in the accompanying fermented bean paste to make it even better.
Other popular dishes include the Teochew Style Braised Duo Combination Platter consisting of sliced Irish Fat duck and Sliced Pork Belly, and the Handmade Combination of Prawn Ball and Traditional Pork Roll.
For something a little different but equally delicious, go for the Steamed Diced Chicken with Chestnut wrapped in Egg White Crepe. The silky-thin crepe wrapping broke apart with just a nibble, giving way to a generous amount of well-flavoured chicken chunks and chestnut cubes within.
