Muslim Delights – Popular Nasi Padang Stall in Tai Seng That Opens on Weekdays Only

Long queues are a sign of good food and we definitely don’t mind waiting in line for them. And if you pay a visit to Muslim Delights for lunch, expect to wait in line with many others.

But it’s definitely worth the wait especially when you see a full spread of colourful nasi padang specialties on display.You’ll be spoilt for choice.

Adam from thehalalfoodblog.com and I have been taking about catching up over Nasi Padang and it finally happened last week when he brought me to one of his favourite Nasi Padang eateries – Muslim Delights.

This nondescript Malay eatery along Upper Paya Lebar Road was started by Hafidah’s mother as a small rundown Malay food stall in an army camp. Since then, they have built a steady fan base and reputation with their homey, good quality dishes. They have even made headlines for being the wedding caterer for many celebrities such as singer Taufik Batista and radio deejay KC.

I was greeted with a dizzying array of dishes that filled up every inch of the display cabinet. I decided to let the expert select the dishes while I stood waiting a corner.

The showstopper definitely was the Beef Rendang. The meat was absolutely tender and boasted rich flavours of the spices used. I love their Ayam Masak Merah too. The juicy chicken was doused in a beautiful red tomato gravy that was slightly sweet with a kick of spiciness.

Other star dishes people gravitate to include Sotong Masak Hitam (squid cooked in its own ink), Sayur Lodeh and Sambal Goreng. The dishes we ordered were delicious! Don’t forget to get a rich cup of teh tarik to accompany your meal.

Honestly, it’s hard to go wrong with nasi Padang in general. These spices and myriads of textures and flavours always hit all the right spots. But you can tell they pride themselves on serving good food to customers. This eatery is so near to our office, I can’t believe I only knew about its existence last week. Looks like this is going to be our regular lunch spot from now on.

They serve Ayam Penyet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; and Nasi Briyani on Wednesdays and Fridays. Note that the eatery is closed on weekends as they are busy with weddings.
