I am a huge fan of Mr Bean, both the comical actor and the soya bean drink. Almost every week or so, I will buy myself a cup of soya bean. Sometimes after workout, I will reward myself with a cup of soya bean. I remembered when I was in secondary school, my tuition friends and I would always buy a Tip Top curry puff with a cup of icy soya bean with pearls. Perfect combination!

With the opening of Bedok Mall, you can also find Mr Bean there. But things are little different. Besides selling the usual soya bean, beancurd and pancakes, the brand has come up with some interesting dessert for the outlet. I love my foodie friends for always sharing with me something new in the F&B scene. We came here after our heavy lunch at Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh and Cross Way Bay Bak Sio Bak, but we still manage to clear four bowls of beancurd!

We first had a warm bowl of 8 Treasure Beancurd ($3.30) which is made up of 8 different types of beans including red beans, green beans, lotus seeds, yellow beans, great lima beans, red kidney beans, barley and peanuts. It is a soothing bowl of soup with many different textures.

If you are a fan of Black Ball, then you probably will love Mr Bean’s version of Three’s A Crowd ($4). The grass jelly is topped with red beans, soft peanuts, black chewy pearls and crushed ice. Remember to give it a good mix, if not it will turn bland towards the end. Nothing exciting, I wish they have more choices of ingredients such as taro balls. Another cold dessert we ordered was Tango Twist ($4) which resembles the that is a rendition of the popular mango sago dessert. The mango chunks provide the sweetness while pomelo gives a little tang.

What is most interesting here, is their Signature Savoury Beancurd ($3.50). In simple terms, it tasted very similar to our local hawker dish – bak chor mee! Just that Mr Bean doesn’t use any pork in their food, this signature savoury beancurd is topped with minced chicken, mushroom bits, chilli oil, fried shallots, vegetarian floss and vinegar. The extra splash of vinegar on the beancurd gives a zest to our salivary glands. Eat already very shiok! Good for supper because it is not as heavy as compared to eating a bowl of bak chor mee pok.

The idea of savoury bean curd is definitely not new but for Mr Bean to come up with something so interesting and close to our hearts, it is indeed a refreshing idea. Note that these are only available at Bedok Mall as of now.
