MOJO – Actor Shane Pow adds magic to CBD’s Food Scene
February 25, 2017
Fans of Shane Pow should be very excited now as Mojo Singapore, a collaboration between Shane and the team behind Sin Lee Foods, just opened their doors last week! Mojo is a catchy term for magic, and Shane believes that everyone needs some ‘magic’ in their lives, hence the name of the shop.
This Japanese-inspired eatery serves grilled protein rice bowls in the day, and yakitori, small plates, and alcoholic beverages at night. Build your own bowl for lunch (from $14) with options like Salmon Fillet, Wok-Fried Broccoli and Quinoa. In the evenings, enjoy a selection of 12 types of yakitori ($4 each, minimum order of two) and sharing plates.
For your desired rice bowl, just pick a base (quinoa, soba, turmeric rice etc), followed by 1 protein (salmon, beef, chicken etc), 3 vegetables, 1 sauce and 1 topping. We really enjoyed the Japanese Furikake topping which accentuated the flavours of the rice bowl.
We ordered two portions – the first consisted of soba, salmon fillet, beansprouts, sautéed mushrooms, and carrots, drizzled with Japanese sauce and topped with Japanese Furikake. This costs $14. While the salmon fillet was well marinated and fresh, we found the soba a tad overcooked, and the taste of beansprouts confusing. We couldn’t tell whether it’s supposed to be sweet, sour or spicy.
As for the second portion, we chose quinoa, grilled beef, wok-fried broccoli, sautéed mushrooms, and yoghurt-slaw, with the same sauce and same topping for $15. The succulent beef was grilled just right, but it would have been better if it was more flavoursome.
Mojo Singapore is a great escape from the stressful CBD environment. Its prime location near the CBD makes it a convenient place for you to unwind with your friends and colleagues in the evenings. Overall, we enjoyed our rice bowls, and we hope that you will too!
