Lola’s Cafe @ Simon Road
May 03, 2015
Hidden in a quiet row of shophouses near Kovan MRT, Lola’s Cafe is sooooo crowded on weekends! The girlfriend queued for a good 45 minutes before getting a table. The queue seems to be neverending! The cafe serves affordable yet delicious brunch fare. We went for the Honey Paprika Wings ($10) which is deep fried till a golden crispy brown, sealed in with a sticky coating of savoury honey. There was a hint of smokiness from the paprika but it’s not spicy lah. It dug it with my bare hands.
It’s quite easy to pick what I wanna eat because I am a fan of croissant so the Breakfast Butter Croissant ($14) is perfect. With an irresistibly flaky texture, the croissant is served with scrambled eggs, pork ham, honey bacons, cheddar cheese, cajun mayo and garden salad. The creamy eggs pairs very well with the buttery and puffy croissant. As for the girlfriend, she went for Avocado Eggs Benedict ($15), combining brioche bread with avocado, poached eggs, pork ham and hollandaise sauce.
We also shared a Lemon Meringue Tart ($5). Don’t think they make their own tart, it was slightly hard and tasted like the ready made ones. The candied lemon zest on top makes the lemon meringue tart more lemony. Lola’s Cafe uses batavia blend which combines 70% colombia and 30% sumatra. My Cappuccino ($5) was creamy. After our brunch, we went over to Ice Edge for pulut hitam ice cream!
