Kin Kao Mai – Container Bistro in Yio Chu Kang Serves One of the Best of Bangkok’s Street Food
April 29, 2023
If you’re a fan of Thai cuisine, the Kin Kao Mai Thai Restaurant is definitely worth checking out.
During my recent visit, we ordered their special platter which included a variety of appetizing dishes such as Giant Prawn, Squid, Prawn Cake, Moo Ping and Mango Salad.
The juicy and succulent giant prawns were cooked to perfection. The prawn cake was crispy and had a delightful crunch. The presentation of the platter was also visually pleasing, making it an ideal dish for sharing with friends or family.
The Seafood Tom Yum has the perfect balance of spicy and sour flavours. The prawns were fresh and cooked well, and the herbs and spices added a lovely aroma to the soup.
Some other must-try appetizers include Grilled Pork Jowl, Glass Noodle with Seafood Salad, and Thai Pandan Leaf Chicken.
New on the menu is Stir-Fried Curry Seafood, a creamy and flavorful fish with just the right amount of spice. The seafood, which included prawns and squid, had adequately absorbed the flavours of the curry. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavours, with the sweetness of the seafood complementing the spiciness of the curry.
I was excited to try their highly recommended Thai-style Braised Pork Knuckle. The dish was presented beautifully with the tender pork knuckle sitting in a pool of savoury braising sauce. The pork melted in my mouth with every bite, and the tasty sauce which was infused with Thai herbs and spices left a nice lingering tingle on my tongue.
Both dishes are best paired with a side of fluffy white rice, which soaks up the delicious sauce.
Kin Kao Mai’s Thai-style steamed squid with lime and garlic is a must-try. From the moment the dish arrived at our table, I knew we were in for a treat.
The squid was tender and juicy, and not rubbery at all. The generous portion was drizzled with a light and tangy lime and garlic dressing that perfectly highlighted the natural sweetness of the squid.
Other seafood dishes worth trying include Deep Fried Sea Bass with Sweet Chilli Sauce, Grilled Giant River Prawn with Seafood Sauce and Glass Noodle with Prawn in a Claypot.
To pair with the signatures, opt for Phad Thai Noodles with Prawns, Pineapple Fried Rice and Prawns, or Thai Olive Fried Rice.
Kin Kao Mai had a few good dishes that I would come back for, such as the Steamed Squid, Braised Pork Knuckle and Curry Seafood. They even have a private room for you to sing KTV while enjoying your tom yum. If you ever find yourself in Ang Mo Kio or Yio Chu Kang and craving Thai food, you can consider dropping by!
