Jeju Sanghoe – A Hidden Gem in Tanjong Pagar with Delectable Halla Mountain Braised Pork Spare Ribs

If you love Korean food, you probably know that most authentic Korean restaurants in Singapore are found in Tanjong Pagar and the CBD. And now, there’s a new player that focuses on Jeju Island’s cuisine.
Enter Jeju Sanghoe, a newcomer whose menu showcases the distinctive flavors of Jeju’s native dishes. Despite having just opened its doors for a few months, Jeju Sanghoe has gained popularity especially within the Korean community in Singapore.
Treat yourself to the signature Halla Mountain Braised Pork Spare Rib at Jeju Sanghoe for $79 ($89 for the spicy version). Inspired by Jeju’s iconic Mount Hallasan, the pork spare ribs are expertly stacked to resemble the towering mountain. The ribs are then simmered in a rich broth, which impart an intense flavour reminiscent of a hearty stew.
For those craving an extra kick, the spicy version of this dish is a must-try. Enhanced with the addition of the proprietary ‘da-daegi sauce,’ a seasoned red pepper sauce, the broth carriess vibrant and fiery notes. Be sure to share this with friends as the portion is generous.
For groups, the BBQ set priced at $85 offers a delightful ensemble of Gogi-Guksu (Pork Soup with Noodles), Black Pork Belly BBQ, and a choice of fizzy drink. There are other set options which include Assorted Fish Cake Soup, Octopus Ra-Myun with Seafood, Jeju Dombae (Boiled Pork Slices), and Grilled Mackerel as well.
The Jeju Dombae (Boiled Pork Belly Slices), priced at $45, offers a subtly satisfying experience. Expect thinly-sliced pork belly, boiled to tender perfection. Enjoy it on its own, wrapped in lettuce, or paired with a tangy gochu dipping sauce.
Another crowd favourite is the Jeju-Style Pork Noodle Soup, priced at $29. Featuring springy wheat noodles bathed in a hearty broth, this dish is the epitome of comfort food. The tender, succulent pork slices complement the savoury broth very well. Portions are generous, so be prepared for a satisfying meal.
The Jeju Style Stone Pot Rice with Abalone priced at $32 is a great choice as well. While the slightly peppery flavour may be overpowering on my day of visit, the addition of abalone lends a luxurious texture and light oceanic taste to the dish. Don’t miss the crispy rice layer at the bottom.
I forgot to mention, the Korean seafood pancake at Jeju Sanghoe is an absolute must-try(despite its higher price tag of $35). Each slice is generously packed with a variety of fresh ingredients, and the texture is wonderfully doughy and eggy.
I must admit, Jeju Sanghoe is a hidden gem nestled within the vibrant Tanjong Pagar area. The Halla Mountain Braised Pork Spare Ribs are absolutely delectable, bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection.
