Hens Night Party at The Black Swan
October 18, 2015
It’s always fun to go for Hens Night Party! I have went for a few previously and this time, it’s my turn! I am really lucky because The Black Swan has kindly planned a night of great food and fun for me. Occupying a beautiful three-storey space that once housed the Kwangtung Provincial Bank’s headquarters in Singapore, the restaurant injects fresh glamour and life into the district.
The Black Swan is the ultimate party venue for you and your friends! Upon entering, we are greeting by a stunning horseshoe shaped bar at its centre. Their cocktails are what make us special, so why not learn from the best and take a class in cocktail making? Their cocktail masterclasses are a great way to start. So let them plan your party in style!
If you are wonder, the dress code for that night is SEXY RED. I wanted all my ladies to put on their most stunning red dress. I am glad that all of them are very sporty! I seriously think every hen party should have cocktails included as part of a great night out. However drinking cocktails is just part of the fun. Learning how to make your favourite cocktails can be just as much fun as drinking them.
Cocktail Masterclass helps to build up to the celebration. During the masterclass, we learn a bit about the history of cocktails but mostly you will have a great time getting behind the bar preparing cocktail. Not only do you get to learn about cocktail making, you’ll also get to taste your concoctions along the way! We have our own handsome and dedicated bartender for the duration of the class. A party is never complete without cocktails!
We made Moscow Mule, also known as a Vodka buck, made with a high quality vodka, a spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. It is quite simple to do and usually served in a copper mug. The vodka is served with Hokaiddo Scallop Tartare in kombu & citrus dressing.
South Side cocktail originated from New York. It is a simple and refreshing gin-based cocktail, mint-kissed with a touch of citrus. Paired with this refreshing drink is lamb rack with tomato compote.
I think after this class, all my girls have skilfully prepared and mixed cocktails for the next party! Be it birthday parties, team-building, hen-parties or a relaxed night out with friends – whatever the occasion, Black Swan is sure to provide a masterclass that is just right for you. Each masterclass is opened for minimum 7 pax to maximum 15 guests at $78++ per person.
The Black Swan launches a new menu dedicated to grand bistro classics executed with a contemporary twist. Indulge in small and large plates that will suit your every fancy, such as Char-Grilled Beef Tartare, Pan-seared Foie Gras with Yuzu Marmalade, and Whole Cracked Maine Lobster. Or delve into platters of freshly shucked oysters, gourmet charcuterie and house-made crostini.
Some classics are untouchable, such as Caesar salad ($18) served with one-hour poached egg. There’s little point in trying to improve on perfection. It’s difficult to get it wrong, and it is definitely a great start to the night before the meats come in. Another dish that appealed to more sophisticated diners is Steak Tartare ($26). Using USDA 365 days grain fed beef with crispy sunchoke and raw egg, it managed to bring out the rich and light and sweet all at once.
We also had a martini glass of prawn cocktail ($28). Peeled shrimp certainly wins the prize for convenience. What’s interesting is the Baked Bone Marrow ($18) with chilli and kombu that’s rich, decadent and melt-in-the-mouth fat served with grilled toasts.
Before serving the mains, we were treated to a row of Martini trolley. CHEERS EVERYONE!
The restaurant now offers a lavish spread, to feed as many as eight, centered on a half suckling pig ($148). Made using pork air-flown from Spain, the meat is painstakingly brined for 24 hours with herbs, sous vide and then roasted to crisp perfection on the outside while it remains tender within. Displayed in an enormous wooden platter, it is portioned into smaller pieces for convenience. The piglet is so tender and the skin is super crispy. As the knife slices through the crispy skin and meat, you get to witness just now tender and juicy the pork is before even savoring. 2 days advance order is required.
A signature that you must not miss is The Black Swan Burger with seasoned chuck, mature cheddar, bibb lettuce, sunny side up egg, streaky bacon, toasted bun and served with fries. For something lighter, the Pan Roasted Barramundi ($36) with green papaya and pineapple salsa is a great option. The crispy barramundi was done nicely, even if it didn’t wow. The tanginess of the pineapple salsa is perfectly balanced with a lightness from the fish.
I am impressed with The Black Swan Fireball ($22) featuring a chocolate sphere filled with berries compote, crunchy pearls and vanilla ice cream. Another option is Profiteroles ($16). The choux pastry is made with homemade milk ice cream and brandy-laced dark chocolate sauce.
Thank you The Black Swan for arranging their private dining room for us. Located in the original bank vault of the building, the private dining room is a respite for the discerning. Handsomely refurbished and hidden from plain sight, it is favoured with updated luxuries, best enjoyed in good company of up to 12 guests.
We know that it’s the friends and people that make it a great event. Thank you to all my favourite ladies for being so fun! If you are looking for hen party ideas, you have come to the right place. Gather your girls together and prepare for a night to remember. 🙂
