Heng Hua Restaurant – Affordable Putien Food in Yishun
October 18, 2016
We wanted to have laksa on Sunday but it was closed, so we went for Heng Hua Restaurant instead. Opened for more than 10 years, the stall used to be at Joo Chiat before moving to Yishun. A small eatery at the void deck, you can expect pretty decent Heng Hua dishes at wallet friendly prices.
For starters, Stir Fried Sliced Yam ($10/$15/$20) is a must as the yam cubes are sweet and tasty. They are fried till it has a slight crispy skin and coated with a slightly sweet sauce, while the yam melts in your mouth.
Heng Hua Style Fried Bee Hoon ($4.50/$8/$12) is another popular dish featuring thin translucent noodles soaked in rich stock made from pork bones. It’s simple but comforting and paired with seaweed, clams, peanuts etc. Another option will be Heng Hua Style Lor Mee ($4.50/$8/$12).
Whenever I eat at a putien restaurant, I would always order deep fried mackerel fish. Deep Fried Slices of Tenggui Fish ($10/$15/$20) is lightly seasoned and retains the sweetness. We needed some greens so we also had a plate of Braised Bean Curd Skin with Kailan ($8/$12/$16).
