Hawkerman – Your Favourite Hawkers Under One roof, Confirm Shiok!
October 10, 2017
The newly opened Hawkerman, a soon-to-be halal certified eatery, brings together all your favourite hawker food under one roof.
Tenderfresh Group, by actor and TV host, Ben Yeo, is behind this stylo-mylo air-conditioned 75-seater at Singpost Centre in Paya Lebar. It houses three popular hawker brands – Tenderfresh, Warong Kim’s, and Ah Boy Popiah.
With the aim of preserving the good old taste and also introducing creative fusion dishes, Hawkerman gave a twist to all these heritage flavours and brought new life to some of the dishes. For instance, the Skinny Popiah ($4.90) features a rainbow filling with crispy chicken skin and salted egg sauce. The skinny popiah is not exactly skinny, as they are really generous with the toppings and sauce. Ah boy’s popiah recipe was passed down by his grandfather who opened Good Chance Popiah. Their rainbow filling is basically 7 different kinds of ingredients braised in a flavourful broth. The good thing is, you don’t have to get your hands dirty as it comes assembled.
We are all familiar with Warong Kim’s, which is opened by the famous Hokkien mee “master” Tan Kue Kim who wears long-sleeved shirt and a Rolex to fry his hokkien mee. Joining the Hawkerman venture is Mr Tan’s son and he came up with a ‘LOLEX HOKKIEN MEE’ ($44.90) featuring 500g fresh lobsters, prawns, clams and sotong. Perfect for 2, the noodles have a mild smokey aroma even though no lard is used. Before serving, the kitchen staff cooks the lobster in the broth and adds the stir-fried noodles in to ensure that the noodles absorb the flavours of the broth. Only 10 portions are available daily.
For Tenderfresh, they came up with O-LEEK CHICKEN ($12.90). Their crispy fried chicken is drizzled with a homemade soy-onion sauce and lots of fried and fresh leeks. French fries are replaced with fried yam strips, and it is served with XO sauce and homemade kimchi coleslaw, which they named kimslaw.
For the ladies who crave a healthy meal, the Seafood Lor Mee is a great option. It comprises Hokkien mee broth from Warong Kim and Rainbow Filling from Ah Boy Popiah, and a serving of seafood and crispy chicken skin.
Can’t decide what to makan? Go for the Bao Ka Liao sharing platter lah! Priced at S$32.90 (feeds 2), it features seven items including Tenderfresh Signature Fried Half Spring Chicken, Warong Kim’s Hokkien Mee, and Ah Boy’s Hokkien Popiah.
Their homemade citrus plum dressing with refreshing watermelon is a confirm shiok on a hot Saturday’s afternoon! They also serve it with their homemade carrot cake – the usual delicous radish cake with stir-fried egg, preserved radish, and homemade XO sauce.

For desserts, order their Singapura Ice Cream ($5.90) filled with durian, gong tang, peanut sweet, ice gem biscuit, gula melaka and coconut ice cream. For durian lovers, you can go for the Durian ‘N Jack Popiah ($5.90). No, Jack is not the popiah man. It is a durian and jackfruit combination served with coconut ice cream. End your meal with a cup of Espresso Kao ($3.90) – think the aroma and body of an espresso but the taste of our tradition kopi kao.
