GLC Hao Yun Lai Restaurant – Scrumptious HALAL Tze Char in Tai Seng!
May 19, 2019
Just a stone’s throw away from Tai Seng MRT is GLC Restaurant, a popular lunch spot which serves tze char-style dishes. Best part? It’s Halal, so it’s perfect for everyone and anyone!
As it is situated in an office area, GLC Restaurant welcomes throngs of patrons during lunch hours. The menu is extensive but here are a few dishes which stood out.
I had the highly recommended Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Dice Rice ($5.80) which comprises rice, a fried egg and salted egg yolk chicken!
This goes onto my list of Best Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Rice. The sauce is packed with all the salted egg yolk goodness and yet was not one bit cloying! My guess is that they must have used evaporated milk in the concoction. Grab yourself a small piece of egg, some rice, and a chunk of chicken coated in the decadent sauce, and you have yourself a piece of heaven!
I also had the Prawn Hokkien Mee ($5.50). It was on the drier side, but every inch of this plate of Hokkien mee was so flavourful! There were pieces of sotong, sliced fish cake, and prawns in the mix. My only gripe was that there were more yellow noodles than rice noodles, hence resulting in a pretty strong alkaline taste present in the dish.
I tried the San Lou Horfun ($6.30) and KL Dai Lok Mee ($6.30) as well.
The San Lou Horfun came with a generous portion of sliced fish, beansprouts, and fried horfun drenched in a viscous gravy. I enjoyed every spoonful of the horfun! I would have loved for the wok hei to be stronger though.
I never had dai lok mee so this is a first! Compared to the Prawn Hokkien Mee, the KL Dai Lok Mee uses a flatter version of egg noodles. The dish has an interesting mix of sweet and savoury flavours. Similar, to the San Lou Horfun, the wok hei was a tad too weak for my liking.
While there were hits and misses, GLC Restaurant still makes an excellent lunch spot! If you are here, I highly recommend the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Dice Rice!
