The Good Boys Cafe – Gorgeous Fruit Bowls Too Pretty to Eat
January 21, 2018
As we transcend into the fourth week of 2018, let’s be real — The “Keep Fit” and “Stay healthy” New Year resolutions have become increasingly hard to keep, especially in a food paradise like Singapore. Nevertheless, for those of us who have fallen off the wagon and want to hop back on, you might be pleased to know that keeping fit and staying healthy can be easy. Recently, we stumbled upon Good Boys Cafe which serves up some gorgeous fresh fruit bowls, smoothies and juices.
A quaint new cafe located at The Commerze at Tai Seng, Good Boys Cafe is just a short 3-minute walk from Tai Seng MRT Station (Exit A). While Good Boys Cafe’s signature items are their juices and smoothies, their pretty-as-a-picture fruit bowls definitely stole the limelight.
The Fruity Matcha Bowl ($12) arrived in a delightful wooden heart-shaped bowl. Made with wholesome ingredients such as mango, banana, passionfruit, matcha powder, chia seeds, pineapple and dates, the bowl is the embodiment of a tropical dream. While a strong mango aroma perfumed the fruit bowl and added a Hawaiian touch, the matcha flavour was hardly discernible under all that fruity flavour. Nevertheless, the fruit bowl was refreshing and texturous, which made every mouthful enjoyable.
Smoothie options with interesting names, such as West meets East, and Nana Nana, are also available on the menu. We opted for the Coco Blast smoothie ($6). One sip, and snap, you are instantly transported to a sunny Caribbean island. The taste of coconut and banana definitely shone through.
The coffee here is priced affordably — the latte and cappuccino will set you back a mere $4 each. Frappes and milkshakes are also available.
For those in the mood for something heartier, The Good Boys also serves bar bites and burger sliders. Diners can look forward to Truffle fries ($12), Luncheon Fries ($6) and Bacon Enoki ($4). We eventually settled on the Mentaiko Duck Sliders ($10), which was an unexpectedly great combination! The smoked duck was seasoned perfectly, and the mentaiko sauce lent a hint of sweetness. For fans of food that are both sweet and savoury, this dish would be pretty ideal. My only gripe was that the burger buns were a tad dry.
Nonetheless, The Good Boys Cafe (Juice and Coffee Bar) is a chill hideout, especially for those looking for some healthy, yet great tasting, food. Readers who have “accidentally” fallen off the track of keeping healthy, perhaps The Good Boys (pun intended) could do you some good?
