The people behind Mediterannean restaurant Maggie Joan’s have opened a new all-day dining concept called Gemmills. The name is derived from John Gemmill, an auctioneer in the 1840s who donated the Gemmill Fountain at Raffles Place, Singapore’s first public drinking fountain.

We took a breather in the midst of all those endless tasks to stop and enjoy a quiet afternoon at Gemmills. Besides offering breakfast on-the-go, salad, sandwiches, chartcuterie, cheeses and 50 labels of red and white wines, they also serve some home bakes and coffee. A good chocolate tart doesn’t need to be fancy, but it needs to be deep, dark, and decadent. The thick layer of chocolate ganache is so rich that it made me forget my last name for a split second. It’s nothing but pure sin, for chocolate lover. For me who is not a huge fan, one mouthful and I am done.

The earl grey cake was moist but mild in flavours, frosted with a thin layer of cream cheese. I would go for a second serving of croissant ash it is less buttery than expected but has a irresistibly flaky texture.

It’s always good to take an afternoon off and do whatever you feel like. If coffee is not enough, perhaps a glass of house pour wine is a good idea?
