Hi guys, I am at Christchurch airport now, waiting for my flight back to Singapore. Weather has been very kind to us for the past 9 days in New Zealand as it has been a sunny winter no matter where we went. Can’t wait to go back home as there are just so many interesting line-ups coming the way.

Anyway, since I am early at the airport, I shall attempt to do a short post on Founder Bak Kut Teh. Many of you may have known by now that my first date with the fiancé was at the original Founder BKT at Balestier Road. But to be honest, my dinner there 4 years ago didn’t leave much of a good impression (other than my dining companion). All I could remember was queuing at 6pm for my BKT, expecting to be served a piping hot bowl of BKT on a rainy day. Instead, I got just a slightly warm bowl of soup and rather tough pork ribs.

I didn’t return till today, when I paid a visit to the new Founder Bak Kut Teh at Rangoon Road, opened by the founder’s daughter. They were surely very busy on a weekday lunch and we had to queue for a good 20mins before getting a seat. Not too bad a waiting time, I am pretty used to queuing for food but was just hoping that the food justify for the waiting time.

Indeed, I was pretty impressed this time round.

We placed our orders while queuing, got led to a rather cooling indoor area. I am always amused by the amount of photographs pasted on the wall and I could almost recognize every singers, actors or famous personalities in the photos.

Our food was served almost immediately. The clear piping hot bowl of spare ribs soup was moderately peppery and balanced with garlic to give it more body. To be honest, I prefer Founder’s version to their competitor’s shop nearby.

Using only fresh pork that brings a natural sweetness to the broth, each spare ribs comes with thick chunky piece of meat wrapped around each bone. We can either order a bowl of rice or mee sua to go with the soup. And of course, I love to soak my you tiao into the delish broth.

Beside the Bak Kut Teh, the restaurant also offers many other cooked dishes such as pig trotter, braised beancurd, braised innards, salted vegetables, omelette and many other vegetables dishes.

I thoroughly enjoyed my kidneys and liver soup as they are cooked just right and not some diluted or bloodied soup. The dark soy sauce was a perfect match for the kidney and liver slices. And to me, this taste more yummy than the Bak Kut Teh.

Attentive service and they let you refill your soup and drink to your hearts content. Will I be back? Of course! Perhaps, I can bring the fiancé back for our date night!
