Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh Now in Jurong: Try Their Special Claypot Mee Tai Mak and Signature Fried Porridge!

Fans of Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh & Fried Porridge were sad when their Beauty World Centre spot closed. But good news for Westies – they’ve moved to JEM in Jurong East!

Just like in Parkway Parade, the JEM spot exclusively offers Claypot Mee Tai Mak as well as Claypot Stir Fried Mee Tai Mak, along with signature dishes like Mixed Organ Fried Porridge and Herbal Bak Kut Teh Soup.

Tasting the Claypot Stir Fried Mee Tai Mak is a treat. The silver needle noodles, combined with rich dark soy sauce, dance in intense heat, creating that distinctive caramelized taste. Every noodle strand carries the perfect wok hei, complemented by pork slices, fish cake, and veggies. The generous addition of crispy pork lard adds an extra layer of flavor. Topped with an egg, it adds a silky finish that makes every bite irresistible.

I prefer Claypot Mee Tai Mak because I am a big fan of Hor Fun and this is somewhat similar. The silver needle noodles were expertly stir-fried in a blazing wok, then tossed with egg whites, pork slices, veggies, and fish cake in a luscious gravy. The starch from the mee tai mak worked its magic, creating a comforting, thick texture in the gravy, making it impossible for me to put my spoon down.

Make sure to leave stomach space for their signature Wok-Kissed Fried Porridge ($7.50 – $13.50). They kick things off by preparing a special broth with dried cuttlefish and a secret blend for that natural sweetness. Then, the magic happens as it gets a good sear over high flames in a wok, creating an impressive fiery show right from the open kitchen.

While you can add sliced pork or even abalone, our top recommendation is the one with a mix of pig’s organs ($7.50). Not for the faint of heart, this version comes with a generous serving of stomach, liver, and intestines, all fresh as can be. For a milder option, check out the Sliced Fish Fried Porridge ($8.50), FX Pork Cutlet Fried Porridge ($8.50), or the unique Frog Leg Fried Porridge ($9.90).

No matter your choice, expect the fried porridge to deliver a perfect blend of wok hei, offering a delightful mix of gooey, creamy, and hearty savoury goodness. The aroma is next level. As a finishing touch, they top it off with a sprinkle of crispy pork lard, fried shallots, and spring onion, adding an extra layer of fragrance and oomph to your fried porridge.

If you’re still hankering for more, why not add in a Claypot Herbal Bak Kut Teh ($8.50 small, $14.90 medium) to go with the porridge? This concoction features a blend of some 15 different herbs and spices, simmered for a minimum of four hours to capture the richest flavors.

The outcome? A soul-soothing broth that’s like a warm hug for your stomach. Free from MSG, each spoonful boasts a subtle sweetness and aromatic herbal notes. Complementing this hometown favorite are racks of pork ribs, impeccably tender and practically falling off the bone.

Consider giving the Dry Bak Kut Teh a shot ($9.50 small, $16.90 medium) – this version features a flavorful umami-packed sauce that’s worth a try. Dried cuttlefish, dried chillies, ladyfingers, and dark soy sauce come together in the wok, creating a glossy, spicy sauce that’s then generously slathered over succulent pork ribs. To savour every bit of that irresistible gravy, having a bowl of rice is a must!

Feng Xiang has truly captured the hearts of many with its hearty and delicious offerings. The next time you’re yearning for some rainy day comfort, head on over – we’re pretty confident you won’t leave disappointed!
