I still remember the first time I tried Eat 3 Bowls 呷三碗 – it was at their humble hawker stall at Seah Im Food Centre, where queues snaked around the corner for their comforting bowls of Taiwanese braised pork rice. Back then, it felt like a little secret – a taste of the Shilin night market tucked away in the West, served up by two passionate friends who just wanted to bring the flavours of Taiwan to Singapore.

Fast forward 10 years, and Eat 3 Bowls has come full circle – celebrating a decade of Taiwanese soul food with the grand opening of their 10th and flagship outlet at NEX!

Long-time fans will be excited to know that they’ve brought back one of the most requested items — their Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles (台湾红烧牛肉面, $17.90), which caused a mini craze back when they first launched in 2018. I remember friends telling me how they were always sold out before lunch hour even hit. Well, they’re finally back, and exclusively available at the NEX outlet.

The Braised Beef Noodles are rich and full-bodied, thanks to a broth that’s been slow-simmered with over 10 different spices like star anise, cinnamon, and Sichuan peppercorns. The beef shank is melt-in-your-mouth tender, and every spoonful of broth warms you from the inside out. There’s also a clear soup version (清燉牛肉麵, $17.50) if you’re in the mood for something lighter — delicate, herbal, and equally comforting.

Beyond the beef noodles, the menu at the new NEX outlet has expanded to include some new gems, such as Taiwanese-style Tze Char (熱炒) dishes, including the Three Cup Style Chicken (三杯雞丁) braised with soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil, and perfumed with basil.

What makes this flagship extra exciting is the introduction of dishes exclusive to the NEX outlet. One of my personal favourites is the Pork Chop Egg Fried Rice (厚切豬排蛋炒飯, $12.90), where every grain of rice is perfectly coated in golden egg and wok-fried to fragrant perfection, topped with a thick, juicy slab of pork chop. It’s the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. There’s also the Salt & Pepper Deep-Fried Oyster (仔大腸麵線, $8.90), crispy on the outside and soft, briny on the inside. It’s addictive and pairs beautifully with a cold drink — just like something you’d find at a bustling Taiwanese night market.

Of course, no visit would be complete without revisiting the trio of dishes that started it all — braised pork rice, shredded chicken rice, and oyster mee sua. Now served as the Eat 3 Bowls Signature Trio Combo (呷三碗拼盤, $14.90), this sampler plate remains close to the heart of the brand. It represents where they began — just three comforting dishes that captured the essence of Taiwan and won the hearts of Singaporeans.

So the next time you find yourself in Serangoon, make a date to Eat Three Bowls at NEX.
