Dickson Nasi Lemak – New Takeaway Joint Selling Nasi Lemak (Rated Best in Malaysia) in Joo Chiat!
April 14, 2022
By the same folks behind Champion Polo Bun, Dickson Nasi Lemak at Joo Chiat has been attracting snaking long queues. A takeaway joint, Dickson Nasi Lemak showcases Malaysian-style Nasi Lemak at its finest, claiming to use the same recipe as the renowned Village Park Restaurant in Malaysia.
Their lean menu offers just 3 items, and everything sells out quickly. I made a trip down previously at around 12pm, and only the Biasa option was available. Determined to get my hands on their popular Ayam Goreng Berempah, I visited earlier this time round, and there was already a lunch crowd present!
Although on the pricier side, the Ayam Goreng Berempah ($9.20, with GST) lived up to the hype. The spiced fried chicken was fragrant, very tender, and not too oily. You can see how well marinated it was — the meat was stained yellow by the turmeric, and strings of lemongrass were evident. I did, however, feel that they were a tad too heavy-handed with the salt.
Another major talking point was their 18-ingredient sambal, which packed a punch. It was not too sweet, had bits of onion, and the portion given was rather generous. Home-made coconut milk is used in their rice, which made the rice very aromatic. I just wished that more rice could have been given.
Every part of the Nasi Lemak was executed well, and it was clear that each component was carefully and thoughtfully prepared, so that they could all shine individually.
I have seen comments from patrons who would prefer an actual dining concept, and I, too, would love to dine in here. I believe that food is always nicer when eaten fresh and piping hot. Hopefully, we can see a seating area here in the future perhaps?
