Chinese New Year is that time of the year when you have to treat yourself to an exceptionally indulgent meal. I mean, you have to start the year right, right? The Carvery, Park Hotel Alexandra’s stalwart restaurant, is rolling out an impressive spread of seasonal roasts specially for the new year.
Only available for dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve and the first three days of Chinese New Year, the Marmite Pork OP Rib is not to be missed. The Carvery does a lavish version of this local zi char delight, using premium bone-in Iberico OP ribs. These ribs are marinated for a day in a mixture of Marmite, honey and Worcestershire sauce, before they are roasted and then glazed with another sticky, glorious layer of house-made Marmite.
The Szechuan Spiced Roast Leg of Lamb is a treat for those who are fans of everything “ma la”. This Chinese New Year, VLV will be serving 11 set menus, including a vegetarian-friendly one. The menus are crafted by renowned Executive Head Chef Martin Foo (former Senior Executive chef at Tung Lok), and will be available from 29 January to 2 March 2018.
One of Chef Foo’s specialties is the Yusheng with Signature Passionfruit sauce, which is available in various sizes. Prices start from $48.
Other mouth-watering dishes include Truffle Roasted London Fat Duck, and Glutinous Rice with Scallop and Black Bean served in a Bamboo Basket. Taste the truffle infused into the tender, juicy duck, and be wowed by the intensity of the flavour. The perfectly cooked scallops too, have a nice, savoury aroma, which pairs well with the flavourful glutinous rice.
A wide selection of desserts is also available. We really enjoyed the Orh Nee, Peony Pastry, and Golden Charcoal Sesame Balls. The latter is presented in an intricate black nest, with artful calligraphy handwritten by Chef Foo. Be wowed by the wonderful roasted sesame aroma, and the Salted egg yolk sauce that oozes out instantly when you bite into the ball.
