Chef Wang Fried Rice – Ex-Shangri-La & Din Tai Fung Chef Sells Delicious Pork Chop & Abalone Fried Rice in Beo Crescent Food Centre!

Fried rice has taken the country by storm, with many stalls carving out a name for themselves with their versions of the simple beloved dish. One of them is Chef Wang Fried Rice at Beo Crescent Market & Food Centre!

Chef Wang Jing jun used to work at Shangri-La Singapore’s Shang Palace for three years, before he went over to Din Tai Fung for a year. After working at restaurants and hotels for long periods of time, Chef Wang decided to venture into the hawker scene with his version of fried rice on 17 May 2021.

When I arrived at the stall, there was a queue of elderly folks ahead of me. I found out that the stall offers a 50-cent discount on every plate to senior citizens to cater to the older demographic in the area.

Prices start from $4 for its basic egg fried rice, with three different toppings available (Pork Chop, Shrimp, and Abalone). You can top up 50 cents to change your rice to sambal fried rice.

I first tried the Pork Chop Egg Fried Rice ($6.50) which features Taiwanese pearl rice grains and black pepper marinated pork chop. The pearl rice grains were fluffy and had a strong wok hei, but were a tad dry. The marinated pork chop was tender, and the black pepper added a slight heat.

I also tried the Abalone Sambal Fried Rice ($10) comprising abalones and sambal rice, which explains why it’s on the pricier side. The small abalones were plump and juicy and went well with the fiery heat of the sambal rice. I would recommend getting the sambal one if you’re into spicy food! The stall also provides Sichuan chilli sauce to go with the dish — great for those seeking an extra kick.
