To achieve their goal in providing “The Best Cheese Tart Ever”, Hokkaido’s famous BAKE CHEESE TART specializes in only one product, cheese tart. The shortbread crust encases the cheese mousse, which is a blend of three different types of cream cheese. The portion of tart is made smaller to allow customers to enjoy it at its best in just a few mouths. The crust is buttery and crumbly, while the mousse is thick and cheesy. According to BAKE CHEESE TART, there are 4 ways to enjoy the tarts: Today – Eat as fresh as possible at room temperature; Cold – Enjoy smoother texture by putting in a fridge; Iced – like an “ice-cream” by putting it in the freezer; Hot – reheating it in a toaster oven. BAKE CHEESE TART will officially open and launch their product on 29th April, so be sure to check them out. The price for each tart is $3.50, and $19.50 for a box of six.

Antoinette’s pâtissier, Chef Pang, has once again taken a step further with his interpretation of cheese tart. Offering of not just one but five different flavors of cheese tart, his inspiration came from his recent trip to Japan and first encounter with cheese tart. Instead of the usual process of creating puff pastry, Chef Pang uses inverse puff pastry where the butter envelopes the dough. It is also the only place, currently, to use puff pastry tart crust, as other places use shortbread tart crust. Hence, we were able to enjoy light, flaky and crispy pastry that is filled with buttery fragrance. The cheese was very smooth and creamy; the cheesy taste was also not too overwhelming, hence you just can’t stop at one. Other than the original Vanilla cheese tart, there are Salted Yolk, Grand Cru Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and Matcha. The Grand Cru Chocolate cheese tart was really heavenly, but the chocolate somehow overpowered the cheese. The price for the tarts ranges from $2.60 to $3.00.

Flor Pâtisserie’s cheese tart is not the lava kind but tastes equally good as well. The filling sits on a almond cookie base, with every bite there is a cornucopia of senses and tastes, ranging from the melt-in-your-mouth lightly salted cream cheese filling, followed by the incredibly fragrant crunch of the almond cookie. Eat it chilled from the fridge and it is perfect.

The first to start the “tart” rolling, PrimaDeli offers two different flavors of cheese tart, Original Lava Cheese Tart and Salted Yolk Lava Cheese Tart. The cheese was very thick and buttery; as for the Salted Yolk flavor, the fragrant golden lava actually flowed out from the tart. However, the pastry was quite hard and lacks in buttery fragrance. The Salted Yolk flavor was also a tad too salty for me. According to PrimaDeli, these tarts are best when eaten upon purchase or reheated. With limited quantities for these tarts, PrimaDeli now offers pre-orders two days in advance. The price for the Original Lava Cheese Tart is $2.40; promotional price at $2, and Salted Yolk Lava Cheese Tart is $2.80; promotional price at $2.40. Promotion ends on 30th April, so be quick to “chope” some tarts!

Cheese Tart: The Icing Room
Cheese Tart: The Icing Room

Launched on 8th April, The Icing Room has also joined the craze in offering three different flavors of cheese tart, Original, Golden Lava and Tiramisu. Arriving too early, I only manage to get my hands on the Original. The cheese for their tart was very soft and creamy, almost like a tofu. Their pastry was buttery and crumbles easily. It tasted almost like the base of a cheesecake. According to The Icing Room, there are 3 ways to enjoy the tarts: Hot – freshly out from oven with molten cheese; Warm – to get balance between buttery tart crust and soft cheesy filling; Cold – to get rich and creamy texture like a cheesecake.  The price of each tart is at $2, along with promotion of buy 3 get 1 free.
