Charr-Bo – Charcoal Grilled Western Food In Yishun
September 13, 2024
It is not often that I see a neighbourhood Western Food stall using charcoal to grill their meats. Charr-Bo, in Yishun, is one that grills their meats over charcoal and wood chips for that distinctive smoky aroma!
The quintessential Western-food-stall dish has to be Chicken Chop. The Chicken Chop ($9.90) here had an excellent sear resulting in a crisp skin that I enjoyed very much. Not only that, the meat was incredibly tender and succulent, and complemented well with a savoury mushroom sauce. You can taste the light char and smokiness from the charcoal on the meat, which further enhances the meat’s natural flavours.
You can customise your plate of pasta as well! I went with the Truffle Mushroom Pasta and Fried Fish ($14.00).The fried fish was quite substantial in size and had a light and crispy batter. The truffle pasta was creamy but it was lacking in flavour.
Looking for a side to go with your mains? You won’t regret getting the Truffle Fries ($6.50)! The Truffle Fries were doused in an indulgent and aromatic truffle sauce along with a sprinkling of parmesan and chives. Compared to other truffle fries I’ve tried in Western food stalls, the one here was relatively sweeter. However, it actually made the flavours stand out more as opposed to the one dimensional savouriness of most truffle fries.
With western food stalls being a dime a dozen, Charr-Bo’s arrival to the food scene is definitely very welcomed! I would definitely be back to try more of their dishes!
