BULGOGI SYO – Sizzling Hotplate Korean BBQ with First Ever 3-Step Hot Stone Grilling Concept
December 15, 2023
Walking by BULGOGI SYO, the smoky aroma that fills the air is an instant tease to the taste buds. This Korean BBQ hotspot, born from the creative genius of Chef Chul Park, the visionary behind SEORAE, has introduced the first ever 3-step Hot Stone grilling process which redefines traditional Korean barbecue experience.
Imagine prime cuts, cooked on specially imported hot stone pans from Korea at 180 degrees, unlocking the Maillard reaction for that explosion of tastes and aromas. And then, hold up, the Fire Masters take the stage with their colossal blowtorches, cranking up the heat up to 1,400 degrees! The result? A mesmerizing char and smokiness that’s nothing short of a spectacle.
But wait, there’s more – the tableside flambé show! Your Syo Specials come in on hot stone plates, sizzling like crazy, and then bam, the Fire Masters add that extra oomph with a flambe. It’s like dinner and a show, but way cooler.
Bulgogi Syo’s menu is an ode to the rich heritage of Korean BBQ, featuring a selection of delectable dishes thoughtfully paired with Korean-inspired sauces. They take pride in sourcing only the finest cuts from the world’s premier farms, as evident in their sister outlet SEORAE which is known to serve premium cuts of meat.
Let’s talk about the menu highlights because, believe me, choosing is a challenge! The Duroc Pork Belly ($21.90), a favorite from my SEORAE days, hits the sweet spot of the perfect meat-to-fat ratio. Whether you opt for the apple hangari or the spicy jeyuk marinade, this pork belly is grilled to sheer perfection, boasting rich flavors and a texture that’s both tender and juicy.
One absolute standout for us is the La Galbi ($39.90) – a star on the menu. Imagine succulent USDA choice grade beef short-ribs, cut across the bones and marinated overnight to perfection. If you’re a beef rib enthusiast like us, this one’s a must-try, offering a flawless harmony of sweet and savory flavors that will undoubtedly leave your taste buds singing.
The Spicy Baby Octopus ($25.90) brought back memories of my time in Korea – spicy, yes, but oh-so-delicious! The octopus is plump and has a good bite to it.
And the Oyster Blade Bulgogi ($27.90)? Pure perfection, well-marbled with notes of apple and pear which act as a natural tenderiser and give the natural sweetness to the dish. It is rich in flavours and topped with raw pasteurized egg yolk. Cheese lovers, you’re in for a treat with the Spicy Cheesy Chicken Dakgalbi ($20.90)– that cheese pull is everything!
For those seeking an array of flavors, the Triple Meat Combo is an absolute feast for the taste buds. Whether you fancy the Pork Combo (featuring pork baby back ribs, Duroc pork belly, and pork collar) or the Mixed Combo (with a choice between angus beef ribeye or La Galbi, pork collar, and chicken), you’re in for a culinary adventure.
This combo not only lets you savor three diverse meat selections but also includes a complimentary jjigae (valued at $16.90), a vegetable platter, and two bowls of seaweed rice. Take your pick from Kimchi Jjigae, Tteok Mandu Jjigae, or Chadol Beanpaste Jjigae, and if you’re feeling a bit extra, add $3 for Seafood Sundubu Jjigae or $2 for an additional bowl of crisp lettuce. It’s the ultimate customizable feast, ensuring there’s something delightful for every palate.
The Chef’s Choice Combo ($59) takes the crown as the most beloved set, offering a tantalizing experience of succulent marinated thick-cut pork collar paired with juicy tender chicken, accompanied by a delightful jjigae and fried rice. The meat is all crowned with a decadent overdose of gooey mozzarella cheese. Trust me, resisting the irresistible creaminess as we dip our meats into that luscious layer of melted cheese is next to impossible.
Bulgogi Syo is not just a meal; it’s an experience that elevates Korean BBQ to a whole new level. The spectacular cooking techniques, the meticulous marination – every bite is a burst of flavors, and every moment is a feast for the senses.
