A morning at Chong Pang Market is always a busy one. Lots of stalls are open for breakfast, and almost all the tables in the food centre are occupied at all times. I went to the market with just one thing in mind — Chwee Kueh.
Bedok Chwee Kueh has a signboard you cannot miss
Chwee Kueh is a steamed rice cake dish, topped with preserved radish and some chilli, if you’ll like. You can see the shop owners spooning out freshly steamed rice cakes at the counter. I got 3 pieces for myself, and it only cost me $1.50!
Don’t be surprised if you get your order like this. This is their “dine-in” presentation.
The soft and creamy rice paired really well with the sweet and savoury chye poh, making every bite so delicious that you’ll instantly crave another bite. The dish tasted even better with the chilli which added some sweetness and a gentle heat.
Don’t let the amount of oil intimidate you. The oil makes the dish more flavourful.
I took my time with my chwee kueh and coffee. What a simple and satisfying breakfast.
