Baker’s Brew – 5 Delectable Chinese New Year Goodies With A Peranakan Twist!

Growing up in a Peranakan family meant that I enjoyed everything the Nyonya cuisine has to offer, from the appetisers all the way to the desserts. I am incredibly curious to see how they would transform the quintessential Peranakan flavours, and meld them with my favourite Chinese New Year goodies.

Their Signature Ondeh Ondeh cookies are not to be missed! It literally tastes like an ondeh ondeh, but in cookie form. Expect a pandan-infused cookie generously stuffed with gula melaka coconut gratings. The moist coconut filling enhances the mouthfeel of the cookies!

The soft and crumbly crust, which is extremely buttery, has a hint of cheese too! My family LOVES tutu kueh. So, I imagine they will be quite pleased to know that they are available in cookie form! The Tutu Kueh Peanut Cookies are small packages of delight. They’re extremely crumbly, and will just disintegrate in your mouth. Each cookie carries a very robust peanut flavour and aroma. Needless to say, I was a huge fan of this creation! Do note that these cookies are quite delicate, so pop them into your mouth quick!

Last but not least, we have the Black Sesame Cookies. This is for all the black sesame lovers out there. The sesame flavour is intense, but not overpowering. It’s complemented beautifully by the nutty notes from the brown butter, which I feel is quite a unique ingredient to add to an oriental cookie! I found myself enjoying a few of these, even though black sesame isn’t usually my thing.
