72 Xiao Chu Zhi Jia (72 小厨之家) – White Bee Hoon in Ang Mo Kio
September 28, 2016
Hidden in yet another centralized estate in Ang Mo Kio lies this hawker stall that serves a range of zichar dishes with palatable white bee hoon.
White Bee Hoon ($5 for small, $8 for medium) is a trend in our local food scene recently. The soup dish comes with generous servings of sliced pork, sliced fish, small prawns and lard, a little different from other white bee hoon. The presentation wasn’t impressive but the broth does had that sweetness, perhaps from the white cabbage. I thought it still lacked the oomph that I can get from Sembawang White Bee Hoon (You Huak) and I expected it to be more smokey from the bee hoon. Read about 9 places to eat seafood white bee hoon.
The Curry Fish Head here is a popular dish. Fish is fresh and comes messy with cabbage, brinjal and lady finger. It is more lemak in nature but lacked the spicy kick. I actually preferred the slice fish with bitter gourd in black bean sauce. This dish is savory, flavorful, and perfect over a bed of rice. We also ordered a plate of Sweet Potato Leaves to go with our meal. It’s wetter and softer, yet still having the crunch.
